The JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB) is a challenging and fast paced knowledge event that is offered to cadets from all services on an annual, school-year basis.  The knowledge categories consist of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, JROTC Knowledge, and Current Events.  Six cadets (freshman - junior) are selected to the JLAB team each school year.  Four of which will be primary team members with two alternate team members.  The contest runs in this following format:

Pre-selection:  Cadets will participate in the JLAB practice test online during the pre-selection period.  Cadets are able to take this test multiple times and are encouraged to submit their highest score for team selection.

Team Selection:  The eight-cadet team (divided into two four-cadet teams) is selected by the SMI who will also designate the team commanders.  Team practice sessions will begin after selection.

Level I:  The first team competition is at the unit level.  All team members will gather at a designated time and place to complete the Level I competition on one computer under the supervision of the instructor staff.  This is a timed event.  Only the top 50% of teams will progress to Level II.

Level II:  The second team competition is at the unit level.  This is the same format as in Level I.  This is a timed event.  Only the top eight teams will be invited to progress to the Level III competition in Washington, DC.  

MCJROTC headquarters provides funding for this competition for one instructor and the qualified team members.
