Promotions

Promotions are an honor and a privilege. Those cadets receiving promotions must possess the prerequisite abilities and skills. Primary authority for promotions rests with the Senior Marine Instructor. Promotions are based on demonstrated leadership ability, academic, and disciplinary excellence. The minimum standard for any promotion is to have a current grade point average (GPA) of “2.0” with no failing grades (2.5 for SNCOs & Officers), and to have obtained the minimum score of 100 points on the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test (PFT) in the current grading period. Cadet ranks are divided into four categories based on seniority and levels of responsibility within the unit. They are Non-Noncommissioned Officers, Noncommissioned Officers, Staff Noncommissioned Officers, and Officers.

The Cadet Non-Noncommissioned Officer, or Non-NCO, ranks include three ranks that create the bulk of our cadet population within the unit. These are the entry level ranks with levels of responsibilities on an individual or limited team level. LE I cadets will normally be in this category of the rank structure for their first year in the program.

Promotion Checklist

The Horn Lake High MCJROTC uses promotion checklists to track a cadet's satisfactory progress toward learning cadet skills based on rank for the ranks of C/PFC through C/Sgt.  Cadets must complete the platoon portion of the checklist skills section, forward the checklist through the cadet and instructor chain of command for recommendations, and meet all minimum requirements to be promoted to the next rank.
