Based on the quote above, it is conveyed that reflection is the best way for people to gain new knowledge, by evaluating themselves people will get the meaning of what they learn. In the Micro Teaching class, I also reflect on what has gone well and what has not gone well to evaluate my performance in teaching so far. I think this self-reflection process is very good for me so that I get an idea of what strategies or process I need to keep and what I need to improve.
At this time, I feel that I have learned a lot of valuable lessons to become an educator so that I feel a lot of personal and professional development that I have experienced through this Micro Teaching class.
First, as a teacher candidate, we are required to be able to work collaboratively with other people. In addition, we are taught to be able to unite one idea or our thoughts in a unit plan and lesson plan that has been given a theme. In my opinion, collaboration work with a full team is not an easy job because as we all know that everyone has their own teaching style, everyone has their own brilliant ideas, and everyone has their own ego. However, in Micro teaching class, I experienced a development process where I learned to respect arguments and listen to other people's input. Moreover, during the collaborative process, I also learned to be a good observer and learned from others so I started to adapt my friend's teaching style which I think is good for teaching students.
Second, I found myself experiencing progress in preparing lesson plans in class. This happened because in the Micro Teaching class I learned about a Framework which really guided and helped me when designing every lesson in class, the framework is called the TLRP framework. Through the TLRP framework I learn to make lessons that have meaningful value where I try to relate my lessons to previous student experiences or learning. Furthermore, through the TLRP framework I learned to relate my learning to social and environmental contexts to help students be actively involved in the world and provide broad views on existing global issues.
Lastly, through the Micro Teaching class, I have developed into a candidate teacher who dares to take risks in the lessons that I will teach. As I mentioned before, I am not someone who really understands social and environmental issues, but through this class I try to learn from various sources such as YouTube, reading passages on Google, etc. to understand social and environmental material. Then I tried to design a unit plan which combines English material that integrates with social/environmental issues with minimal knowledge. Through this process I am very proud of myself because I was able to go beyond things that I had never done or thought about before.
Finally, the reflection above concludes that to become a great educator requires a long journey and process because no one is successful without trying and enriching their own experience.
