Hello! My name is Ni Putu Maryati Saputri, usually people call me Maryati. I am majoring English Language Education at Sampoerna University. My strengths are highly motivated to learn new things and develop skills through many opportunities. Furthermore, I am detailed-oriented, innovative, and able to work with a team. I have a great interest in education because I see that Indonesia has a large number of human resources but a shortage of educators so that many children do not get their rights in pursuing education. Therefore, I have a dream to become one of the famous educator who can influence and help to improve education in Indonesia.
I have some experience in education, such as being a tutor for several students in Composition I class and I have taught as an English teacher at several schools in Jakarta. These experiences are also in line with one of the programs held by my campus called the School Experience Program (SEP), where from semester one to semester eight, all education students are required to teach in several schools for 2 weeks to 2 months. Of course, this experience was beneficial for me; I came to know that before teaching students, I must know the background and characteristics of students first so that I can adjust to their needs and interests during the learning session. In addition, a teacher must also be able to create a positive environment and ensure that students can engage in great and meaningful learning. Being a teacher is a noble thing, I will find inner satisfaction when I see the students I teach become successful. I want to be a teacher who has sympathy and compassion where I am able to understand the needs of my students and facilitate my students until they are successful, especially in learning English.
In this portfolio, I will share my teaching journey during the 4 months of participating in Micro Teaching classes at Sampoerna University. In this course I was taught to understand what teaching philosophy is and find out which teaching philosophy suits my characteristics. Then, in carrying out SEP Independent teaching at a school in Jakarta, I also had to reflect on what was going well and not well. In reflecting, I followed the guidance from the TLRP framework which really helped me in preparing my unit plan and lesson plan when teaching in SEP and practicing teaching Micro Teaching in class. The TLRP framework provides several aspects that teachers must pay attention to in order to create a positive learning atmosphere and involve students in a deeper and critical view.
Likewise, the Micro Teaching course also teaches that learning is something related to each other, for example when studying English material, teachers can collaborate language learning with social or environmental issues which can help students get a broad view of their lessons and be more aware of their surroundings. At the end of the portfolio, students will reflect on all the teaching journeys that have been carried out while attending the Micro Teaching class, then students will reflect and give comment on each other's peers.
