- Composition of a grassy landscape in the middle of day. Since experimenting with different times of the day was a goal set for this month, I have given drawing a piece with complete light my first try in quite some time! Although both the clouds and sky are the most realistic aspects of this artwork, I am still pushing for improvement on adding depth to the grass, rocks, soil, and shrubs. In addition, with the constant practice of landscapes this month, I also seek to incorporate different perspectives. (10/14/18)
- Composition of a shore area with foliage at dawn. Since I have not experimented with color gradients found at these hours since my previous semester, I decided to give it another go, especially focusing on how sunlight can reflect off of surrounding clouds. Playing around with different grass and leaf brushes, I was able to add a sense of contrast to the foreground of the piece, which makes the illuminated water even more of a focal point. Areas of this artwork in which I feel there could be more improvement are the transition area between the rocks and the water, along with the addition of texture in the sand. Nevertheless, I have learned quite a few things this month about how a background should look, which makes doing landscapes more exciting! (10/21/18)
- Full-body composition of a dog who is gazing at a sunset. Although the hard shading on this figure was less clean than I initially desired, I am satisfied with this piece being my first real attempt at a canine! Jumping back momentarily to my old Wacom tablet, I was able to create more coarse details, especially with the distant mountains. These aspects of the background I feel add more perspective to the picture, so this skill set is certainly something I am going to keep pursuing. Overall, I am happy with the color spectrum in this artwork, making this one of the strongest pieces I have completed thus far! (10/31/18)
