- Composition of an edge of a cliff over a body of water. In order to keep my landscape-illustrating skills sharp, for the month of March, I have created yet another Student Learning Plan goal dedicated to these pieces, creating new banners for tabs on this digital portfolio that share the same image (this picture will serve as the banner for the "Resume" tab). After completing this piece entirely in Photoshop, I feel as if I have made some progress on finding the proper colors to shade background elements, especially on both the soil and small pool of water. At this moment, I am still struggling with creating color and shape contrast in large, grassy fields, and in this composition, this is most noticeable on the middle portion with the two land masses. On the other hand, illustrating clouds and foliage with the chalk brush is now becoming easier for me, so in future pieces, I am hopeful to include more realistic versions of these two objects! - Illustration of a canine facing a sunset. To preview my goals for the month of April, on this character, I attempted to incorporate markings of specific breeds into this animal, this piece featuring those of the German Shepherd. Although the coloring is not completely accurate, I am hopeful to continue completing referenced practices, perhaps using the collection of photographs farther into the drawing process (e.g., coloring and shading). For the landscape elements of this work, I am most proud of the realism of the atmospheric lighting, as I feel it accentuated the focal point centered around the character. Additionally, I am becoming increasingly able to accurately place shadows on a variety of locations, once again most notably on the body of the dog. So far, I believe this is one of the strongest pieces I have completed, as tweaking color palettes can dramatically elevate boldness. (3/30/19)
