- Composition of a dog in a snowy landscape at sunset. After completing this image, I feel as if I have developed a better understanding of the proportions typical to canines in comparison to my previous illustration! Due to the nature of a snowy background, I was unable to incorporate as much landscape texture as I desired, however, I was satisfied with the look of the shadows cast from the character's limbs and the trunk of the tree. Since I have not attempted winter-associated background elements in some time, working with the snowflakes was enjoyable, and I was ultimately able to create a contrast in their sizes. Cel shading in this piece was yet again another struggle for me, but I am hopeful to keep learning about shadow in this month's light studies! (11/17/18)
- Composition of a grassy landscape at dawn. Completing this image entirely in Photoshop, I was able to further experiment with perspective and blurring effects! Upon creating the bushes that can be seen in the distance, I ended up incorporating larger amounts of depth to them, especially in adjusting the flows of the brushes used to make their shapes. In addition to this, I was able to apply this same technique to the grass, allowing me to add more controlled levels of varying shades of green. Lastly, the formation of the sky gradient was also facilitated by Gaussian blurring options in the application, along with the use of available layer effects to change the prominence of specific colors. Overall, although this piece is quite simple, I was satisfied with how many tricks I refreshed myself on. In future artworks, I hope to continue to create more coarse background elements with these tools in order to increase the level of realism when a character is added. (11/23/18)
