- Composition of a mixed rocky and grassy landscape at dusk. In completing this picture, not only did I learn how to create a blended border between a body of water and its shore using Photoshop's blurring effects, but I also was able to experiment with advanced brush settings. Incorporating scattering effects on a normal circle airbrush, I was able to have greater control of the amount and size of the stars in the sky, which gives the top of the image an aspect of realism. Further, for the shading of the rocks and the water, I felt as if I was getting better at color placement, rather than essentially blending the different gray color values. This illustration will also serve as the banner for the "Innovation Lab Experiences" tab, part of a replacement process that I will continue through the next few weeks! (12/1/18)
- Composition of a snowy and icy landscape at night. Although the shading on the trees and ground took quite a bit of time, I feel as if I have improved on the concept of adding depth, especially in the distant mountain range! In addition to this, I am happy with the motion effects and size contrasts that appear on the snowflakes, as these elements once again elevate the level of realism in the picture. In terms of understanding how to draw varying background elements, I was able to pick up knowledge of some techniques, most notably on blending the snow that is shown on the trunks of the trees. This composition, from now on, will serve as the banner (this image has been replaced as of January 2019) to the "Reflections of LIT" (renamed "Journals") tab, part of my ongoing portfolio remodel! - Illustration of a forest landscape at sunset. After completing this picture, I have began to feel more confident about my skills regarding drawing trees and adding shadow to solid background elements, all due to last month's directional light study! One aspect of this composition that I struggled the most with was the overall layout of the grass, which lately, I have been attempting to draw in a more organized manner. On the flip side, I am very happy with the range of colors in the sky and blended clouds; this is probably the strongest sunset I have completed so far. This last image will be used as the banner for the "Hands-on Hardware" tab, but in using reference pictures, I am hopeful to keep improving my environments! (12/14/18)
