TY2025 Tax-Season is Starting - Check here for timeline -->
While Maine Tax-Aide strives to provide classroom and/or Google Meet training for as many new volunteers and returning tax counselors as possible, it is not always possible.
AARP Tax-Aide's National Tax Training Committee (NTTC) provides a comprehensive self-study program for both new and returning volunteers.
Each district ultimately determines what works best to meet the training needs of new volunteers and returning counselors.
By following this self-study program you can:
Gain a basic understanding of the tax law required to effectively prepare a tax return.
Practice with the TaxSlayer software that is used to prepare and e-file tax returns.
Utilize resources and tools to accurately prepare tax returns.
The study books include links to all of the resources needed to study each topic including topic-specific videos, training slides, and other NTTC resources including Pub 4012 NTTC Modified (annotated) and topic papers.
The self-study program is presented below. Click on the title to access the material.
The NTTC Self-Study Program is designed to be used with a qualified mentor assigned by the District Coordinator.
The goal is to complete all assigned returns and the IRS Advanced Certification exam in Link & Learn.
