TS10: The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.
10.1: The educator is prepared to collaborate with stakeholders (such as learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, or community members) to ensure student learning.

Evidence 1: Meetings with district art teachers.
Description: I attended several meetings with the district art teachers and Essential Arts teachers during student teaching. The first meetings were in person then they moved online during school closures.
Analysis: The first of the meetings was a collaborative share out of current curriculum. Some of the art teachers brought hand outs and examples of what they were teaching in their art rooms. My mentor teacher and I shared our work around the hallway displays and introducing new artists to the school community. It was from this meeting that I learned about the making of art sketchbooks / journals for a future lesson. I also shared some slideshows with teachers who were interested to using them in their own classrooms.
Another meeting was scheduled to be a full-day discussion of curriculum for the district, including the high school art teachers. This meeting was cancelled due to school closures and was rescheduled to be online. The online meetings served as a share out of how art teachers were adapting their lessons for online / at-home learning, a sharing of resources and techniques, as well as a conversation around expectations of art teachers during school closure and therefore expectations of students.
I find the time spent with other art teachers to be highly valuable and will strive to participate in such meetings in my future art teaching position. I find it helpful to hear what was happening in art rooms around the district as well as how district teachers are able to collaborate. As there is often only one art teacher in a school building, it is important to set aside time to spend with others in a similar professional position to keep ideas fresh, to learn about professional development opportunities, curriculum planning, and overall support of colleagues.
Evidence 2: Youth Art Month (YAM) Gallery set up at State House in Montpelier.
Description: These photos illustrate members of the Vermont Art Teacher Association hanging student artwork for Youth Art Month (March). I was responsible for hanging the artwork from Montpelier High School students.
Analysis: As a member of the Vermont Art Teacher Association, I attend board meetings and take an active role in the planning of events. I believe it is important to stay active in such organizations for the collaboration and support of colleagues, promotion of student learning, and to keep the arts active in local and nationwide communities. Although the reception was cancelled due to Covid-19, students from all over the state of Vermont had the opportunity to present their artwork in the statehouse, where important government work takes place. For government officials to have access to student artwork, we are ensuring the importance of the artwork our young Vermonters are creating.
10.2: The educator is prepared to advance the profession through advocacy, leadership, and/or action research.
Analysis: My personal website: www.LorienGrace.com is a collection of my work as an art educator and artist. It is a place where one can find not only my own artwork, but my graduate thesis Pecha Kucha presentation and the resources I discovered while doing my research. With the intention to continue my research work in the form of a published article, I keep my website updated and encourage art educators to visit when in need of resources. When schools closed due to Covid-19, I expanded my resources pages to include a page on distance learning. I was encountering online resources from many places and I decided to keep them saved all in one place for reference. Since this page will be connected to the Vermont Art Teacher Association (VATA) website, my hope is that art teachers throughout Vermont will take advantage of my collection of resources.
One way that we can advance the art educator profession is to support one another as colleagues and professionals. Much like my involvement in VATA, I enjoy taking on leadership roles and advocating for the importance of art education. The resources pages on my website illustrate my passion for advancing this profession by supporting art educators around the state of Vermont.
Evidence 1: Resource Page for Art Teachers on personal website.
Description: This image shows a screen shot of a page on my website. From my graduate research, I added a Resources for Teachers tab with inclusive classroom resources for teachers to access. When school closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, art teachers scrambled to figure out how to teach art from a distance. I added a page to my site that focuses on distance learning resources for art teachers. This will be linked to the Vermont Art Teacher Association (VATA) website so that more Vermont art educators can access these online resources.
Evidence 2: Pecha Kucha presentation and Acceptance letter to present Pecha Kucha at NAEA (Minneapolis, 2020) and link to Pecha Kucha on personal website.
Description: As part of my graduation requirements from graduate school, I organized my research findings into a Pecha Kucha presentation. I submitted this presentation to the National Art Education Association's (NAEA) Preservice Division to present at NAEA in Minneapolis and was accepted to do so. Since NAEA was cancelled due to the pandemic, I uploaded my Pecha Kucha slideshow to my website so that people can access it and learn about my research. It is located on my LGBTQ+ Resources page.
I was also signed up to present my work during a Super Session along with the President and former President of the LGBTQ+ Interest Group. We plan to present at the 2021 NAEA National Convention.
Analysis: After completing my research, writing a thesis, and presenting my findings, I was highly encouraged by my professors to continue my work. With the positive feedback that I received, I planned to present my research at NAEA, in an effort to advance the profession. Another plan of mine was to gather resources for art teachers which was focused on inclusivity in the classroom but then blossomed into Distance Learning Resources as well. Future plans include writing my thesis for publication in order to share it with art educators throughout the country. With the goal of always standing up for art education, I will continue to advocate and advance this important profession.
