KS7: Depth of study in one or more of the visual and/or design arts as demonstrated by presentation and exhibition of one’s work.
Evidence 1: Solo Exhibition, Middlebury Art Walk, Middlebury, VT, 2013.
Description: In 2013, I was asked to be a part of the Middlebury Art Walk. I presented my pastel drawings in a solo exhibition. At the time, I was working solely with pastels as my medium. I had a large enough body of work to be able to exhibit on my own.
Analysis: Working with pastels gave me great enjoyment as I found them to be similar to painting, but are truly a drawing process. The collection of pastels I had were colorful and bright, making working with them a delight. It is always beneficial as an artist to work with one medium for a period of time to study its characteristics and learn its nuances. Much can be gained by working in this manner.
Some of these works can be found on my website: www.LorienGrace.com.
Evidence 2: Vermont Pastel Society's Group Show at Emile Gruppe Gallery, 2014.
Description: One year after my solo show in Middlebury, the Vermont Pastel Society selected one of my pastel drawings to be a part of their group show in Jericho, VT.
Analysis: This piece was selected by the Vermont Pastel Society in their group show, giving me yet another opportunity to exhibit my work locally. Being a part of a professional exhibition, in my experience, comes after an artist works on their craft. I did so by creating various pastel drawings, attending pastel workshops, and joining the Pastel Society as a member. Working in one medium for some time allowed for me to thoroughly explore pastels and how to work with them to achieve a desired result.
Evidence 3: HeART Show at Rustic Roots, Shelburne, VT, 2020.
Description: These images portray the artwork that I created to enter in the art show, and the group of students that also participated by submitting artwork.
Analysis: I include this third piece of evidence as it is the latest example of exhibiting my own work. It is important to constantly be creating artwork and finding opportunities to exhibit that work is taking the artmaking one step further, sharing it with the art world. It was a wonderful experience to get to exhibit alongside the senior art students from Montpelier High School.
