KS4: Philosophies and methods of art and design including historical, contemporary, and innovative practices.
Evidence 1: My Philosophy of Teaching Art and Design.
Description: My Teaching Philosophy as of March 2020. Subject to change as I learn more as an art educator.
Analysis: I include here my five goals as an art educator. These will be my focus as I begin to shape a curriculum and art space for my students. I am aware that in time, my philosophy may change as I gain experience and face new challenges, but I believe that it is important to begin with clear goals set forth in order to keep focused on what is important to me as an educator.
Evidence 2: Webinar certificate for: Revitalize Your AP Art History Curriculum: Align with the New College Board Curriculum
Description: Attendance of online webinar covering AP Art History testing outcomes, curriculum with lesson examples, and strategies for engaging students in their learning and getting away from the usual art history lectures.
Analysis: Three presenters contributed to this webinar. The first was focused on AP Art History test questions and how they were answered by students. This was to inform participants on which test questions students find the most difficult, and where AP art history educators need to focus more time in teaching content. The second presenter focused her presentation on sharing about her trips to a local art museum with her students. Her message was that being able to take students to a museum is an enriching way for students to learn art history content. The final speaker focused her presentation on hands-on learning projects that she had done with her students. One she spoke of was "Sacred Spaces", "Museum Pamphlet", "Recreating Works of Art", and "Alter Pieces Tri-Folds".
Having several methods to approach teaching art history is helpful as an art educator since my experience as a student with this topic was strictly from lectures. I did not find this to be the most effective way to learn art history and I would have benefitted from learning in a more hands-on approach.
Finally, some tips that were given that I will be sure to use are: give students time to read in class - this ensures that they do the required reading. Teach them how to take notes - give them a format to follow so that they focus on the important content. Peer grading is helpful for both the students and the educator - it allows for them to check each other's work and allows for work to be graded efficiently.
Evidence 3: Praxis II Exam - Art: Content and Analysis
Description: This is an image of my Praxis II exam results, taken in December of 2019.
Analysis: I include here my Praxis Exam results because this test includes art methods, art history, and art practices and thoroughly covers many topics of creating, responding, and critiques. I passed this exam on my first attempt.
