PS2: Utilizes a variety of resources, materials, and technologies, that support students.
Evidence 1: Online Drawing Lesson
Description: When schools closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, we moved to online learning. The drawing unit had already been created and was then adapted to be taught online. This video is Day Two of the drawing lesson for the Art 2 students at Montpelier High School.
Analysis: Teaching online was not something that I had done before, nor had my mentor teacher, but we worked quickly to figure out how to do so. Since we had lesson plans in place, we were able to transform them into online lessons, this drawing lesson was one of them. The benefit to teaching in this format is that students can watch the video, pause as needed and repeat any section of the video what they would like to see / hear repeated. This allows for students to learn at their own pace while still having the auditory and visual methods of learning at their fingertips.
Evidence 1: Lesson Plan: Potato Pants / Papier Maché
Description: This lesson plan designed for the kindergarten level and adapted from Lisa Bresler, incorporates listening to a story, a variety of materials, and the use of technology throughout the three class lesson.
Analysis: This lesson begins with a story that is read to the kindergarteners. Students learn about one method of sculpture through the introduction of papier maché. They are also given access to a range of collage materials to decorate their sculptures in the final class. This lesson plan is accessible and fun for students. They connect with the story that is read to them, the videos that support the story, the variety of materials they are presented with, and the fun nature of this lesson that allows students to practice following directions but also expressing themselves through artmaking.
