Writing Project 3: Analysis of Community Issue in Academia
For Writing Project 3, you will be drafting out your Symposium Presentation in essay format, with a little twist. In addition to writing about the background of your issue, perspectives on the issue (including yours), and solutions, you will also then argue for a solution you think is best (particularly addressing our campus and its culture). So, your essay will need to cover the following:
· A thorough explanation of the origins/background of the issue and your community in academia
· A discussion of multiple perspectives on the issue (including your own personal experience and perspective). After all, it’s an issue, so there’s bound to be many different views of the problem.
· A detailed description of current and proposed solutions for the issue
· A strong argument in favor of which solution(s) you think are best, with our campus being a focus
You might find that as you write the essay, you will need to do additional research. Writing changes research and research changes your writing. It’s a symbiotic relationship, and, yes, it can also be super annoying (and exciting when it’s something you’re actually interested in). This is totally normal and to be expected.
Your essay will:
· Be 3.5 pages minimum-5 pages maximum in length
· Be in APA format with a complete References page
· Include at least 5 credible and reliable sources (they don’t have to be from your Research Log. You can add different sources as needed)
· Have at least 5 in-text citations, with a mix of direct and indirect quotes
· Be proofread and revised for grammatical and spelling errors
· Be uploaded to Blackboard as a Word document
