I have really been looking forward to watching GameNight! play Scythe, so I was thrilled when I finally go to this episode. I guess it's the artwork that attracted me, so I did some research. From what I can tell, the game was inspired by the artwork, but then the artist, Jakub Rozalski , contributed artwork for the game.
The rules explanation was pretty long, but I don't think it's really that complicated, but it is really interesting. As I understand it, each faction has some special rules. The faction boards are chosen randomly each game so how a faction actually works will vary from game to game. There are also goal cards which I believe are random and not related to your faction or board. The encounters are really interesting. One that I remember gives the player the choice of helping someone fix a pulley in a mine or cutting the rope (there's a between choice too, but I don't remember it.)
Anyway, this is on my want list!
