Recently I discovered GameNight!, a YouTube show on BoardGameGeekTV. I enjoy gaming, but it the last ten years or so, I have had less opportunity to do so. The main reason is that we adopted a couple of kids ten years ago (almost eleven), and they really crimped our style. Kids take up a lot of time. The make it harder to go out. They destroy stuff. They make it harder to keep friends. (That last one probably applies to our kids. Many of our friends have kids that are quite enjoyable.) Anyway, I was wandering around YouTube and I found GameNight! They were already in their 6th season (now it's season 7), but I had to go back to Season 1 and start watching from the beginning. I did manage to keep myself from starting over for this blog, but if I ever catch up (unlikely), I'll probably go back to the beginning.
Anyway, it's usually Lincoln, Nikki, Aaron, and Dave playing a game. They have some really cute traditions. First they introduce the players and the game they're about to play. Then, after being seated, one of them asks another one (usually Dave) to teach them to play. It's fairly obvious that they often already know, but they are being taught for the viewers' benefit. They are nice to each other and help each other. They cheer when someone makes a good play. The laugh and say "Boo" when they don't like what's going on. They rarely swear (and when they do, one time so far, it's bleeped). It's everything I enjoy in a game playing group.
