In 1 Samuel 17, David has been chosen by God, but he isn't king yet. King Saul is still king over Israel, and they were at war with the Philistines. God used David to fight against their best soldier, Goliath, and he won. God used David to win the battle. Just like David represented Israel, Jesus represents us when when put our trust in him.
