Jesus often taught large crowds of people in parables to explain what his kingdom is like. The word parable may not be a word we use often…it is another way to say a story with meaning. He used these stories to help people understand that God’s kingdom isn’t like normal kingdoms of the world that belong to the strong and powerful…God’s kingdom is instead an upside-down kingdom that belongs to the gentle and merciful.
The parable that we are learning about is the Parable of the Sower found in Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, and Luke 8:1-15.
Read the Parable of the Sower in the Bible in Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-20, or Luke 8:1-15.
What did the seeds stand for in the story? (God’s word/Jesus’ teaching).
What happens to the seeds if we are distracted by things going on around us? (The seeds won’t grow deep roots.)
What can we do to grow deep roots in Jesus? (Choose to believe in Jesus, pray often, open and read our bibles, listen and obey what the bible teaches us, find friends and adults who can also help us grow in Jesus.)
Pray and ask God to help you grow deep roots in Jesus.
