Barbie 2 - Scene 011

Summary of Scene 11: INT. NIGHT, BARBIE & KEN'S HIGH-TECH APARTMENT

In their tech-savvy apartment, Barbie and Ken are scrolling through news when an incoming call from Skipper, Barbie's sister, interrupts them. Skipper is attending a tech party hosted by "Old Space Company," a competitor in the space race. While speaking to her, Ken notices that his confiscated hologram technology is being used in the background. This revelation leads him to suspect that the government is under the influence of the Old Space Company.

Skipper shares some juicy intel: Old Space Company's Mars lander has crash-landed on the Moon, delaying their next test launch by six months. Ken makes a snarky comment about the inefficient "government elves," but Barbie sees this as a golden opportunity for Ken's private space venture to seize the moment.

Ken, initially oblivious to the gravity of the news, finally catches on. Energized, he suddenly rushes out, declaring that they'll be launching within a month. Barbie expresses her disappointment that Ken hadn't shared how close he was to the Mars launch. Ken acknowledges that while he wasn't close before, he is about to be.

Ken leaves in a rush, tossing another toy soldier (a recurring gift from Barbie) into his glove box, which already contains an impressive collection. Barbie, although slightly exasperated, is also impressed by Ken's audacity and ambition. Both realize that this could be the break they've been waiting for to jumpstart their aspirations for space travel.

Interview with Alan Nafzger: The Mastermind Behind "Barbie 2"

Conducted by Katy Room

Katy Room: Alan, thank you for sitting down with us today. Your recent Barbie 2 script is making waves in the industry, and we're thrilled to learn more about it. Scene 11, set in Barbie and Ken's high-tech apartment, has been a talking point. Can you walk us through the genesis of that scene?

Alan Nafzger: Well, Katy, it's always a pleasure to chat about Barbie 2. Scene 11 is crucial because it presents a paradigm shift for Barbie and Ken. They're not just thinking about surviving the government's relentless pursuit; they're now considering exploiting its weaknesses.

Katy Room: The character of Skipper is introduced through a video call. Why did you decide to involve her this way?

Alan Nafzger: Skipper serves as an inadvertent catalyst. She's at a tech party hosted by the "Old Space Company" and innocently reveals some sensitive information. But her inclusion also serves to expand the Barbie 2 universe. She's a crucial link in the information chain.

Katy Room: Ken seems a bit dense in the beginning, failing to grasp the golden opportunity. What's going on there?

Alan Nafzger: Ken's not dense; he's just so entrenched in his tech world that sometimes he misses the forest for the trees. When the penny finally drops, there's no stopping him. I wanted to showcase the dichotomy in his character—brilliant yet occasionally oblivious.

Katy Room: Barbie seems a bit disappointed that Ken hadn't disclosed how close he was to launching for Mars. What does that say about their relationship?

Alan Nafzger: It tells us that despite being a power couple, Barbie and Ken still have issues to work out in terms of communication and trust. It's a bit of a reality check in their otherwise dreamy existence, adding layers to their characters.

Katy Room: Alan, you're going toe-to-toe with Greta Gerwig, a Hollywood legend with a net worth of 1.4 billion dollars. How does that feel?

Alan Nafzger: (laughs) Oh, Greta's fantastic, but sometimes you have to be the David in a world full of Goliaths. I mean, we're all trying to make art here, right? And let's face it, if I waited for the Goliaths to step aside, I'd never get anything done.

Katy Room: Fair point! Before we wrap up, any final thoughts about the plot or what fans can expect next?

Alan Nafzger: All I can say is, keep your seatbelts fastened; it's going to be a wild ride. And for those who want to delve deeper, do check out the script and follow our updates on Medium.

Katy Room: Well, we're on the edge of our seats, Alan. Thank you for this enlightening discussion, and best of luck with Barbie 2!

Alan Nafzger: Thank you, Katy. Looking forward to sharing more soon.
