Susan Bonner - then do Structure over the Bean

Susan Bonner - Combining the bean and the structure in class - drawing from the model

  • First we did the nude model from different views and then we did similar poses with the costume on - trying to understand the form under the clothing.

  • 2 min gestures on the top and 8 min costume poses on the bottom

  • Adding character elements would be the final step.

Claudia Pimentel - Example

  • Line of Action follows energy and movement of the pose, aligns along the spine (generally); even with a simple pose, determining a strong LOA and establishing weight can make it look interesting

  • Bean shape helps simplifiy and define the torso and it's movement

  • Structure helps us remember and find pines and volume of the body, as well as foreshortening and tilt

From these foundations we build our habits, hands, and eyes to see and build dynamic poses

Student Examples:

Keegan Moore Beans with structure

Keegan Moore Lines of Action have been added to the bean drawings on another layer to show the flow of the action.

Joseph Mead - Bean then Structure Drawing then with value connections that move through the figure.
