What is it Like to be Me? is a collaboration with a neuroscientist, Ayako Onzo, and a theoretical life scientist, Yuta Nishiyama. Through a performance, workshops, spoken word poetry, and a lecture, we asked the question, "what is it like to be me?"
In the performance, Yagi referred to a scientific experiment called "rubber hand illusion", and applied to an edible hand to further develop the experiment. As a parody of New Scientist, a British science TV channel where an episode introduces the "rubber hand illusion," she made a video called "Ilmuwan Baru" (meaning "New Scientist" in Bahasa Indonesia). In creating this parody video, she used hand-shaped cookies and cake, instead of a rubber hand. The "cake hand illusion" experiment in the video was conducted during the performance with an audience volunteer as the subject.
Here is a short video by Yuta Nishiyama of the project.
This project was held during the international puppet festival "Pesta Boneka #4" hosted by Pappermoon Puppet Theatre.
