From March to June 2020, I stayed with a healer and her family. In previous years, I had visited them briefly before Holy Week to learn about gathering medicinal plants and preparing herbal remedies. But this time, by living with them, I was able to witness in detail the healer’s way of life and her intimate relationship with plants.
During this period, I followed her closely and filmed footage as a personal record. I was reflecting on how I might connect my learning process with my art-making.
This video was created during the pandemic, when I was invited to participate in an online screening and needed to present a new work.
The piece blends the subject of my research with my own subjectivity, experiences, and imagination. It represents an important response to the question of how research and artistic practice can intertwine.
This video was constructed from words written in my journal on April 7, 2020.
The jungle footage, which resembles old film, was created by projecting video onto the road from the backseat of a motorcycle using a mobile projector, while simultaneously filming the projection as we rode toward the mountains.
