We want you to understand where we have come from, and know our vision for the future. You are a part of the story of Joyful Journey OT, and we are really excited to have you on board.
We have a unique culture at Joyful Journey, and we will discuss the policies in place to help you know what our culture is, and align with our culture. There are also procedures in place to help you orientate yourself with how things are done here.
These policies and procedures outline your job requirements, as well as the way you conduct yourself with clients and staff. They cover everything from communication to administration, professional expectations and the way you present yourself online.
We understand that we are each one jellybean in a jar, and true change happens when we work together:
We prioritise open and respectful communication, knowing that kindness builds trust.
We show reliability – doing what we say we’ll do and following through for each other and out clients.
We practice active collaboration, sharing ideas and leaning on each other’s strengths.
We nurture ourselves, our team, our clients and their caregivers, recognising that care is a shared responsibility.
We celebrate wins together and support each other through challenges.
Stay True and Build Genuine Connections
We know that being ourselves is the foundation for trust, and genuine connections are what make our work meaningful.
We show up authentically. No masks, no pretence, so that our clients and teammates can too.
We listen with curiosity and compassion, creating space for people’s stories.
We communicate honestly and kindly, even when conversations are tough.
We value relationships over transactions – building trust takes priority over ticking boxes.
We celebrate individuality and diversity, knowing that differences makes us stronger.
Foster Growth and Empower Others
We understand that growth is not linear, like a tree, we may bend, branch out, and take time to flourish, but with the right care we grow stronger together. Growth is not just about personal development, but about lifting others with us as we learn, lead, and share:
We prioritise supervision, mentoring, and professional development as essential parts of our journey.
We support each other to step into challenges, from SSGs to advocacy, with confidence, encouragement and care.
We take responsibility for our own learning, seeking out opportunities, showing initiative, and sharing our knowledge generously.
We empower others by offering guidance, feedback, and collaboration that builds confidence and capability.
We embrace innovation and new ideas, knowing that mistakes and reflection are part of growth.
We nurture a culture where questions are welcomed, learning is celebrated, and everyone feels empowered to grow and contribute.
We know that balance is key. Embracing openness, curiosity, and joy allows us to connect, create, and thrive together:
We approach work with curiosity and a willingness to listen, learn, and consider new perspectives.
We celebrate moments of joy, humour and playfulness, making the workplace engaging for ourselves, our clients and our team.
We foster psychological safety by encouraging openness, honesty, and respectful dialogue.
We balance professionalism with fun, knowing that a positive, light-hearted culture supports resilience and connection.
We remain adaptable and flexible, seeking challenges as opportunities to respond creatively.
Joyful Journey OT exists to be a trusted anchor in our community — a place where children are celebrated, families feel supported, therapists thrive with purpose and balance, and collaboration with parents, schools, and educators drives joyful participation for all.
A trusted anchor is built when we:
1. Collaborate openly
2. Build genuine relationships
3. Keep learning and growing
4. Celebrate diversity
We understand that great therapy starts with great therapists. That's why we prioritise a supportive environment for our clinicians, providing them with opportunities for growth and development so they can deliver the best outcomes for your child. By empowering our team, we ensure that every session is guided by a passionate, skilled therapist who is committed to helping your child reach their full potential.
At Joyful Journey, we are unapologetically neurodiversity-affirming. We recognise that every child is unique, and we celebrate and support neurodivergent children in everything we do. Our therapy approaches are designed to honour each child’s individual needs, preferences, and ways of processing the world, creating a positive and empowering experience where your child can truly be themselves.
We utilise the DIR/Floortime model—an evidence-based approach that focuses on building emotional and social development through play. This child-centred, flexible approach allows us to meet children where they are, ensuring they feel supported, understood, and engaged in the therapeutic process. We believe in the power of playful interactions to foster connection, skill-building, and emotional growth.
At the heart of our work is the belief that therapy should be enjoyable and stress-free for children. We take a child-led approach, which means your child’s interests, preferences, and pace guide every session. By focusing on play, we create a safe space where children can explore, grow, and learn without the fear of power imbalances or unnecessary stress. Our goal is to build trust, foster a sense of autonomy, and make therapy an experience that is fun and meaningful.
We believe that parents are the true experts on their child. That's why we emphasise open and ongoing communication throughout the therapy journey. Parents are always kept in the loop with detailed session notes, progress updates, and regular check-ins. We work closely with families to ensure that therapy goals remain relevant and that therapy activities are working. In addition to child-focused therapy, we provide regular parent-only sessions to keep our approach aligned with your child's evolving needs.
We know that access to quality therapy is crucial, which is why we offer services in multiple locations to make sure families can receive the best therapy without the added stress of long travel times. Whether in-clinic, online or at another location that works for your family, we’re committed to providing consistent and high-quality care. We also understand the importance of keeping parents informed, so after sessions, we send detailed notes and updates to ensure everyone stays on the same page.
Before we begin therapy, we ensure that your child’s therapy plan is based on a thorough, individualised assessment. Our comprehensive process includes standardised assessments, Functional Capacity Assessments, and informal observations as needed. We take care to ensure that all assessments are purposeful and considerate, with the goal of gathering meaningful data without wasting time or funding.
Our clinic is more than just a therapy centre—it’s a place where children feel safe, supported, and excited to come. From the moment they enter, children know they are in a space where their well-being is the top priority. We create a warm, inviting environment where every child is treated with respect, compassion, and care. Our goal is to foster a community where both children and families feel empowered and valued.
Joyful Journey Occupational Therapy is different because we see the whole person—their strengths, challenges, and potential. Our holistic, person-centred approach ensures that therapy is not just about addressing deficits, but also about building confidence, fostering independence, and celebrating each person's individuality. Whether they are neurodivergent, have developmental delays, or simply needs support in certain areas of life, we’re here to help them thrive. We’re not just about therapy; we’re about building lasting relationships with families, empowering people to reach their goals, and creating a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
