Matt Silas was installed as the first 3-time president of the Kiwanis Club of Jonesboro during the club's annual Awards-Installation Dinner on Oct. 2, 2019, at the Jonesboro Country Club.
Silas first served in the club’s top position in 2002-03, then returned for a second term in 2017-18. Because no other club member stepped up last year, Silas agreed to take the office of president-elect for the current year. That put him in line to serve again as president in 2019-20.
That was confirmed with the club elections during the annual meeting in May.
Robin Kuykendall was installed as president-elect, and Roy Ockert will serve a second straight term as vice president. Under club bylaws the vice president is the Program Committee chairman.
Diann Jenkins and Bill Dunnam will serve new terms as secretary and treasurer, respectively.
Warren Skaug, Phyllis Skaug and Warren Shull were installed as directors, to serve 2-year terms on the club’s board. Holdover board members, who will serve one more year, are Brad Magee and Matt Knight. Andrew Nadzam was elected to fill the remain 1-year of Mindy Shields, who resigned from the club in May.
The current president, Sid Banks, remains on the board as immediate past president. After two years in that role, Richard Wang went off the board. Also leaving the board was Jerry Lewis.
As Region 8 trustee of the Missouri-Arkansas District, Ockert installed all new officers and directors except himself. That was done by Clyde Wilhoite, a retired club member and former lieutenant governor.
Gregg McElhanon was presented with the Kiwanian of the Year Award, and Billy Woodruff received a Walter Zeller Fellowship.
Wilhoite and Fred Sitz, also a retired member, offers reflections on what it meant to be a Kiwanian, along with a little advice for things to avoid. Both are honorary members of the club.
