Diann Jenkins, secretary of the club since 2006, received the 2025 Kiwanian of the Year Award during Thursday night’s annual Awards and Installation Banquet at The Parsonage restaurant.
Outgoing club president Warren Skaug presented the award, calling Diann the “glue that holds the club together.”
Also during the event Jimmy Franklin was installed as the new president. He and other officers and directors will take office on Oct. 1, the beginning of the Kiwanis fiscal year.
It will be Jimmy’s third 1-year term as the club’s president. He served back-to-back term in 2010-12. The only other club members to serve three terms as president in the club’s 90-year history are Matt Silas and Roy Ockert.
Ockert, as a past governor of the Missouri-Arkansas District, installed the officers and directors. The other officers are: Neale Bartee, president-elect; Johnny Sweet, vice president; Diann Jenkins, secretary; and Shirley Park, treasurer. Dr. Skaug will serve another year on the Board of Directors as immediate past president.
New directors, elected to 2-year terms, are Sid Banks, Elaine Bartee and Brad Magee. Serving one more year on the board will be Nesha Guest, Traci Perrin and Matt Silas.
Warren was presented with a plaque in appreciation for his service as president.
Traci Perrin, as lieutenant governor of Mo-Ark Division 16, presented several awards for the club’s contributions.
The Kiwanis Club of Jonesboro received its charter during a banquet on Aug. 1, 1935, at the Hotel Noble, which was on Main Street where the Federal Building is now located.
Matt Silas presents a plaque to Warren Skaug in appreciation of his efforts as president.
Traditionally, the club president presents a Kiwanis mug to the program speaker each week. Past Governor Roy Ockert turned the tables on Dr. Skaug by presenting him with a mug.
