Emma O'Gorman

Emma Samantha O’Gorman was born in April 1974, the daughter of Newmarket trainer Bill

O’Gorman. She rode for her father both as an apprentice and subsequently as stable jockey.

Emma rode successfully for several years as a professional jockey riding nearly 150 winners and twice being leading female rider, the first time in 1992. She developed a distinctive style, adopting the low crouch favoured by American jockeys and copied by the likes of Alan Munro and Frankie Dettori.

She rode her final winner on Goldfame in a one-mile all-weather handicap at Southwell on August 14, 1998.

Bill O’Gorman was a superb trainer of juveniles and of sprinters. Working for her father from a young age enabled Emma to gain invaluable experience in breaking yearlings and handling two-year-olds.

After quitting the saddle, she moved into the world of bloodstock, pin-hooking yearlings that went on to do well as racehorses. She now has her own bloodstock trading company, Emma O’Gorman Ltd.
