Andy O’Callaghan

Andrew Francis O’Callaghan rode one winner during a fairly brief career. His sole success came at Huntingdon on Whit Monday, May 30, 1966, when his mount Parthian Prince won the Ramsey Hurdle (Division 1).

Trained at Epsom by former Flat jockey Tommy Gosling, the four-year-old had run six times that season and been placed three times, with Andy in the saddle on each occasion. Now, in a close finish, the pair finally earned their reward, beating Midnight Star, the mount of top jockey Johnny Haine, who had already won two races that Whit Monday afternoon, by a neck, with Andy Andrews on Macedonia just a further neck away in third.

Parthian Prince never ran again, and Andy O’Callaghan relinquished his licence in August 1967. He briefly renewed it for the 1968/69 campaign but rode no more winners.
