What are some things you are most passionate about?
The aspects of my ticket’s platform that I am the most passionate about are definitely improving student relations with administration and improving the academic culture. With even the recent semester, it was frustrating to not know how to plan for this pandemic. This confusion could have been minimized with effective and timely communication with students. As the middleman between administration and students, I hope to facilitate and increase that interaction. In terms of academic culture, there should be more resources and support that the school should be providing students. Whether this is from more direct grade lines, or a greater focus on student mental health, improving the academic culture at our school would definitely improve our college experience.
What have you done or helped do on the campus during your time at JHU?
A lot of my involvement in organizations involve the Baltimore and greater community, for example Engineers Without Borders and my research lab. Additionally, my involvement in the Hindu Student Council, especially in the planning of Diwali, has helped me develop my event planning skills. Also, after working for the Life Design Lab for a number of months, I have made many administrative connections with staff that would be valuable connections. Those connections could be useful in bridging the gap between administration and students, as well as helping provide more resources, academic and otherwise, for students.
Why did you decide to run for office?
My initial reasoning for running was seeing that there were few students from the college of engineering involved in the current Student Government. That fact, in addition to my own personal experiences with Hopkins Administration, encouraged me to try and run. I would be so honored to be able to better represent my peers, to have constant contact with university administration, and to potentially improve the university experience.
What is the first thing you would accomplish if you won your position?
One of the first events that I would like to establish is pizza with the council. My ticket and I have ideas about personal changes we would like to see on campus and have gathered input on student priorities as well. However, in order to continue to gauge our peers’ views on new issues or feedback on our progress, I feel that an opportunity for direct communication would be the most effective. Hopefully, this will enable greater communication and transparency from SGA to the student body.
