What are some things you are most passionate about?
I’m really passionate about making sure communication is clear and making sure people have access to healthcare, both physical and mental. I think many of the problems in student life generally come from uncertainty of policy and frustration with a lack of communication or accessibility. Even if we reform healthcare appointment or student organization systems to make them more friendly to students, these systems will only work if these policies are clearly communicated.
What have you done or helped do on campus during your time at JHU?
This past year, I have served as a senator and worked both with administrators and several student groups and organizations, including JHU Help. I have been involved in several efforts, including advocating for better communication with student groups and amnesty in grading. Furthermore, I have pushed for better communication of health resources and worked with Health and Wellness to make the appointment system more convenient.
Why did you decide to run for office?
I decided to run for office because I believe the best way to improve student life on campus is through student government. Over the past year, I have both seen great student dissatisfaction with student group systems and student health and wellness and I have also seen the great power student government holds to influence policy. As the student representatives, we are best situated to communicate student concerns to JHU administration, thereby achieving the goals I have mentioned above.
What is the first thing you would accomplish if you won your position? If I win, the first thing I will do will be to help train all of the newcomers to the Senate so we can be most effective in our work and best act as resources for the student body. Furthermore, I will create resources to summarize and clarify policies on student groups.
