What are some things that you are most passionate about?
I am most passionate about the topic of transparency! I applied to join SGA in the past spring semester when there was an opening, and have since spent the last couple of months learning how the group works and figuring out what could best be done to help. From my observations, increasing transparency is a high priority. It is essential to publicize the work and decisions of SGA to let the student body know that we are working diligently to improve campus. But more importantly, students would be able to have another of being notified on decisions impacting them such as those surrounding students orgs.
Why did you decide to run for office?
I decided to run for office because beforehand, I had little to no knowledge of what my student representatives were up to and whether or not they were working towards the matters that we had elected them to do. At the time, there was a increasing outcry from the student body because student orgs were not allowed to start that semester and I was one of many who was effected. So, I decided to apply to join SGA and change the narrative for those of us in the student body who were impacted detrimentally due to poor communication and transparency from SGA.
What is the first thing you would accomplish if you won your position?
If I were to win a position in Senate, I would begin passing bills for transparency. I already have a few ideas ready to go that I would work on over the summer and bring to the floor during the GBM’s of the new semester. The very first one that I would work on is to broadcast SGA work by including concise summaries in “Today’s Announcements” as well as a link to the publicly available meeting Agendas. This is because the Agenda contain a valuable transcript so students can make sure that the representatives they elected are serving as promised.
