1/31-2/4

This week students will work on creating models of the ocean floor, identifying and modeling specific key ocean floor features, understanding and describing the 3 different sediment types found on the ocean floor and identifying them.

2/7-2/11

This week students will wrap up with Unit 2 Sediments and begin Unit 3 Marine Chemistry. This unit will focus on water, its properties, and gas laws.

2/14-2/18

This week students will look at how the properties of salt water differ from those of freshwater and why. They will also look at case studies concerning Ocean Dead Zones and conduct a study on what is happening to shells in our oceans.

2/22-2/28

This week students are wrapping up Unit 3 Marine Chemistry with a look at gas laws. They will relate these gas laws to diving what divers need to consider when diving. This concludes the Unit, with the Unit 3 test on Friday.

2/28-3/4

This week students are beginning Unit 4 Waves, Tides, and Currents. They will learn about the different types of waves, explore how waves move, what currents and tides are, and complete a lab identifying current formations.

3/14-3/18

Students are finishing Unit 4 Waves, Tides, and Currents and starting Unit 5 Planktons and Producers. They will complete a Fashion a Plankton project to investigate the qualities of plankton and why these are important.

3/28-4/1

This week students are exploring the base of the marine food chain, plankton and producers! Through videos, articles, and labs students will identify and describe what makes these organisms so vital to the marine environment.

4/4-4/8

Students will expand their knowledge about the base of the marine food chain to include algae and marine plants. They will learn about the different species and families, and do some teaching as well!
