Indigenous rights activist, Leader of the Anti-Coca-Cola Struggle Committee - Plachimada
India
Mayilamma was an unlettered woman from the Eravallar tribal community, who were severely affected by excessive groundwater extraction for a Coca-Cola bottling plant in Plachimada, located in the south Indian state of Kerala. She co-founded the Anti Coca-Cola Struggle Committee, which led a successful legal campaign against the company's extractive practices, making Plachimada a focal point for the debate on people's right to water and a company's right to exploit water under its land.
