Dr. Adongo served as Director of Water Resources Management in the Ministry of Water and Environment in Uganda through the COVID-19 pandemic. In this position, she emphasised the need for climate change risk management, mitigation and adaptation, and has worked to mobilise private finance for these. In 2023, she was appointed as the Executive Director of the Nile Basin Secretariat, which works to enhance transboundary water cooperation between the 10 Nile Basin countries. In this capacity, she has stressed the importance of knowledge sharing, and recognising common challenges such as climate change. She has also advocated for increasing involvement of Egypt in the Nile Basin Initiative.
