Professor Zwarteveen is an irrigation engineer and social scientist. She studies water allocation policies and practices, focusing on questions of equity and justice. The relation between power and water is explicit in her work, including in attention to gender. She worked at the Wageningen Centre for Water and Climate, and served as coordinator of the Gender Studies programme.
