Picnic Day is a long standing UC Davis tradition. It usually takes place during the second week of April, when the weather is getting warmer. During a whole Saturday, hundreds of activities take place, ranging from a Doxie Derby race to science activities for children. It is family-friendly environment, where UC Davis students and the UC Davis community gather together to celebrate our community.

Picnic day is also an exciting day for IGG. We use this opportunity to make science activities to children and share basic genetics concepts with the community. We usually have two stands: we make "DNA" bracelets using colored beads as nucleotides, and set up a glowing booth, with animals expressing GFP. Isn't it cool? During the previous weeks to Picnic Day, our Community and Outreach coordinates sends an email to recruit volunteers. Don't miss the opportunity to participate!
The Biodiversity Museum Day is a special event usually happening on February over President's Day weekend. During this educational event, all UC Davis Museums open for free to the public and the Davis community. You can see families walking around campus following the circuit of museums across the campus.
Open museums include the exciting Raptor center, the Bohart Museum of entomology, the nematode collection, and the botanical conservatory. It is truly a celebration to the our planet's biodiversity. The Whole Earth Festival is a celebration to environmental sustainability and a welcoming ritual to warmer months, that includes music, food, and zero waste! It usually happens around the first weeks of May.
