Run through a tutorial (such as this one from Code Academy) for interacting with your computer through the command line may also be helpful to get you started! You will be using the command line extensively to download bioinformatics tools for working with data. Check out our page on bioinformatics training for more!
Download R/Rstudio to your computer if you do not yet have it. You will be using R-Studio within the first few weeks here! We have a beginner's tutorial in GGG 201A (your fall core class), but getting a head start may help make this tutorial a more productive experience!
Don't forget that fall is fellowship season! Now is a good time to start looking at opportunities you may qualify for and brainstorm some application ideas.
