UC SHIP coverage
UC SHIP coverage
All UC Davis students are required to have health insurance. In order to satisfy this requirement, all students are automatically enrolled in the University of California Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP). If you have already have comparable insurance coverage, and do not wish to be enrolled in UC SHIP, you must apply for a UC SHIP waiver by the posted waiver deadline date. The services at SHCS are available to all students, even if you waive enrollment in UC SHIP.
Costs and Dates of Coverage: UC SHIP fees are charged to your student account each term (quarter), along with your registration fees. If you are enrolled in UC SHIP for Spring term, your coverage automatically extends through the end of Summer term at no extra cost, even if you graduate at the end of Spring term.

make an appointment in person (pre-COVID)
call (530) 752-2349 and speak with appointment desk staff. The Appointment Desk follows the same Hours of Operation as the Student Health and Wellness Center, though it closes at 5:00PM.

The Student Health and Wellness Center located on La Rue Road between Hutchison Drive and Orchard Road, across the street from the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) and next to the Colleges at La Rue is the primary location for SHIP users to get medical services. The main hours of operation on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday are from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, and 9:00 am - 4:00 pm on Wednesday.

It's important to know beforehand what the emergency services coverage is for any given insurance plan before an emergency occurs. This can help you make informed decisions during times of crisis, and (hopefully) give you the confidence to seek needed medical services.
