Sofia's Latin night (Davis): If you want to experience a fairly realistic latino party, then Sofia's Latin Night is your place (a latina says so!). It is held every other month or so in Sophia's Thai Kitchen bar and currently hosted by Peruvian DJ Andres Dongo. It's usually advertised via Facebook Events and the Facebook group "Latin Night @ Sophia's - Davis". The playlist includes reggaeton (of course!), latino urban pop (Shakira!), funky from Brazil (Brazilian reggaeton), and sometimes traditional dancing music like Salsa or Vallenato. A lot of latino international grad students attend this party, as well as locals. You will enjoy the uplifting and crammed environment of these latino parties!
Bachata Tuesday (Davis): Every Tuesday night, KetMoRee Night Club hosts Bachata nights. Bachata is a popular genre from Dominican Republic, that has acquired a lot of popularity in latin dancing clubs. It has complex choreographies and specific timing, similar to Salsa. Bachata Tuesdays offers classes for those new to this style as well as social dancing, where you can display all the moves you've learned.
KetMoRee Night Club: KetMoree not only offers bachata nights, but also becomes a night club some days of the week, featuring party music, such as Hip-Hop or Dancehall.
Dance on The Edge (Sacramento): During warmer months, outdoor latin dancing events are held across Sacramento by Dance on The Edge. The location changes every time, but it's usually around Downtown or Midtown Sacramento. They offer Salsa and Bachata classes as well as social dancing. Mango's (Sacramento): In Midtown Sacramento, there is Mango's, a night club with three rooms, ranging from live performances, reggaeton, salsa and hip-hop. What else can we ask for? Faces (Sacramento): Right next to Mango's, there is Faces Nightclub. Faces is the #1 Gay night club in Sacramento with multiple rooms, ranging from Drag Queen performances, hip-hop, electronic and reggaeton.
Badlands (Sacramento): In the same block, near Mango's and Faces, there is Badlands. As they describe it in their website, Badlands is a gay bar & nightclub with drag nights, DJs, multiple bars & a disco-style dance floor. If you're nostalgic for 2000's pop you will love Badlands! You cannot go wrong with any of the dance clubs in this block!
The Depot (Sacramento): "Down-to-earth gay bar featuring cocktails, draft brews & casual eats, plus regular events & a patio."

Bizarro Games (Davis): Bizarro is a popular local store dedicated to all things gaming and geeking. They sell board games, card games, comic books, and rent movies (yes, like real DVDs). Support local stores!
The Avid Reader (Davis): It's a family-owned independent book store in Downtown Davis, that features a family friendly environment (with a place to read to kids).
Time-Tested Books (Sacramento): It's a lovely bookstore in Midtown Sacramento, that has a great collection of books and a pretty layout. It is close to nice coffee shops where you can go to reads your newly purchased book!
Heartbeat KTV Karaoke (Sacramento): if you want to do karaoke with some friends in private rooms while eating sushi, this is your place. They provide two microphones and fairly wide selection of songs to sings.
Oblivion Comics (Sacramento): Located in Downtown Sacramento, it is a good place to visit if you are into comic books.
City Hall (Davis): Located in Davis' former city hall! This bar is a
University of Beer (Davis): This is a bar that seems to be more popular among graduate students and scholars. They have a wide selection of beers and ciders to try, and they have partnerships with some local restaurants for food. They are pet friendly, and if you bring your furry friend you can get a discount!
Third and U Cafe (Davis): Another popular option for drinks in Davis. Although their beer selection is not that big as University of Beer, they do offer food and their breakfast is very popular on weekends. There is indoor and outdoor seating areas, so its a great place to hang out with a large group.
De Vere's (Davis): This a popular Irish pub offers drinks and food, including great sandwiches and unique cocktails in a warm atmosphere.
Burgers and Brew (Davis): If you want to drink a good beer while eating an amazing and creative burger, this is your place. It is usually pretty crowded. It has mostly outdoor sitting, and a nice ambience.
Three Mile Brewing Co (Davis): Award-winning beers served in a great secluded outdoor patio space.
Super Owl Brewing (Davis): This brewery is a great option if you live in west Davis. They do not sell food, but there is a pizza place nearby. The beer is high quality and there is seating for big groups.
Cork it Again (Davis): A fantastic place to taste local wines and handmade sangria! Joe always has a fabulous assortment of tastings and great cheeses pairs in a cozy little space and a lovely outdoor patio.
Davis Wine Bar (Davis): If your thing is wine, then you must visit this wine bar. They usually have wines from different parts of the world. They sell it by glass, so you can try multiple ones without breaking the bank. No food is served here. Overall, a great a fancier option for wine enthusiasts.
Sudwerks (Davis): This is a brewing company located in East Davis.
Parkside (Davis): An outdoor parks themed brewery (s'mores cocktail anyone?), Parkside features large televisions to watch sports games, pool and live music for some recreation while you sip.
The Beer Shoppe (Davis): known for its selection of bottled beers, this bar is popular amongst grad students and faculty. In the afternoons you will often find grad students writing, and in the evenings they often host get-to-know-the-speaker events from various campus seminars.
The Barn, Drake's Brewing Co. (Sacramento): If you are willing to travel a little bit further, you must consider going to The Barn. This a huge beer garden, with the nice ambience, vast selection, and even food trucks! At night, the fairy lights and the fire pits generate a cozy atmosphere to enjoy with friends and loved ones. This place is doggy friendly, so you can find happy doggies accompanying their humans. Isn't this perfection?
The Mercantile (Sacramento): One of Sacramento's most popular gay bars, the Merc offers a fun and diverse atmosphere for all right across the street from some of Sac's most popular dancing venues.
Berryessa Brewing Company (Winters): "Craft 20-barrel brewery serving unfiltered beers in a taproom with indoor & outdoor seating."
The Preserve (Winters): "Hip bar & eatery offering local, seasonal grub, including brunch, plus craft beers & cocktails."
Mishka's (Davis): This is one of the best cafés in Davis. It offers good coffee and tranquil space to work and converse surrounded by work from local artists while listening to soft jazz melodies. They offer free Wi-Fi, but you'll need to ask for a password with the cashier. It has designated seating for people without laptops that want to have a coffee with a friend and chat. If you are still not convinced about how magical this place is, you can visit their website and go through their pics! The only downside is that their wi-fi can sometimes be overwhelmed by the number of students, so if you need reliable internet you might check out the nearby Philz or Starbucks.
Temple Coffee (Davis): This is also one of the best coffee shops in Davis. The coffee quality is good and the atmosphere enchanting. They usually closed at 11 pm, so if you like to work at night, this is your place. They have free Wi-Fi, which usually works fine. It's also a nice place to chat with a friend, although there is usually few spots available. Temple Coffee Roasters is a Sacramento area café chain, with additional locations in Downtown and Midtown Sacramento that share the same lovely vibe.
Cloud Forest (Davis): Here is another great coffee shop in Davis, located in D street in a lovely complex of green houses. Besides coffee, this place offers several light food options, including sandwiches, toasts, bowls, and juices. Sometimes they have live music. There is free Wi-Fi and seating for working and chatting.
Tea List (Davis): Right next to Cloud Forest, you can find Tea List. As you can imagine, this is not a coffee place, but rather a tea place. This is the perfect spot to have some fancy tea time with a friend. You can order little sandwiches and cupcakes, with a delicious tea infusion.
Konditorei (Davis): If you are feeling like trying delicious pastries, then you must visit this Austrian Pastry Café in Davis. Here you can have a coffee with an assortment of cakes, pies, cookies, croissants, cinnamon rolls... you name it.
Philz Coffee (Davis): The California chain Philz Coffee has a branch in little Davis. They offer their special coffee blends, free reliable Wi-Fi and ample seating spots. You can also bring in a personal mug to leave on their wall to use any time you visit! This place is usually crowded, but luckily there are plenty of other coffee shops in the area if you cannot find a spot.
Peet's Coffee (Davis): Near Philz's Coffee, there is another popular coffee shop chain with multiple stores around Davis. Besides the ones inside campus, there is one in Downtown and another one in North Davis. They offer decent coffee, free Wi-Fi, and space to work and chat.
Starbucks (Davis): Most likely you are pretty aware about Starbucks already. We have two Starbucks in Davis, in Downtown and near U Mall. There is very reliable, free Wi-Fi and the downtown location has ample comfortable seating in a fairly modern space.
