Before the quarter begins, UC Davis offers various orientations and trainings from mid- to late-September to help students adjust to their first quarter. Some of these activities are mandatory, while others are highly recommended to help students become more familiar with the culture in Davis. All details about campus graduate student orientations can be found on the Office of Graduate Studies Orientation Page. Registration will open sometime in July.
The orientation and training sessions are shown below in the order of when they are typically held, beginning with the Graduate Diversity Orientation Program.
Optional but encouraged
1. Graduate Diversity Orientation Program (Now Holistic U)
This orientation tackles diversity issues in higher education and success in graduate school. Register for Holistic U at after creating your computing account and ordering your AggieCard.
Mandatory for all International Students
2. International Graduate Student Orientation (IGSO)
Register for IGSO at https://grad.ucdavis.edu/orientation after creating your computing account and ordering your AggieCard.
Optional but encouraged
3. Graduate Studies Week of Welcome and Orientation
This orientation contains all of the typical information, such as resources offered. Register for the Graduate Studies Orientation (GSO) at https://grad.ucdavis.edu/orientation after creating your computing account and ordering your AggieCard.

4. Orientation for New Teaching Assistants
This orientation is required for all potential teaching assistants and is only offered once a year. You are required to take this orientation at least once before teaching. If you think you may be teaching your first year, sign up for this training - its only one day. Once you have taken it, you do not need to take it again, but you can take it subsequent years if you plan to teach then instead.

5. IGG Student Orientation
Introduction to program expectations and presentation of the advising roadmap. You will also meet your graduate student mentors.
Optional but encouraged
6. CBS Graduate Group Fall Welcome
Mixer for all the graduate groups in the College of Biological Sciences held at the Life Sciences Courtyard. Light refreshments provided. You will receive an email from the CBS coordinator for registration.
Mandatory
7. Sexual Violence Prevention Training (SVPT) - mandatory
Register for SVPT at https://grad.ucdavis.edu/orientation after creating your computing account and ordering your AggieCard. SVPT is mandatory for all incoming graduate students. 8. Laboratory Safety Training
Complete your mandatory online Laboratory Safety Training, preferably prior to arriving. The training takes 2-3 hours and includes testing. Be sure to save the certificate and PPE voucher you receive - this can be redeemed at the VetMed Bio Supply store in Haring Hall.
