Abstract & Presentation :

The United States is now a full member of the Marrakesh Treaty community. National copyright laws have been amended to conform with treaty requirements. The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) is a national network of libraries providing free public library service for blind and print-disabled Americans. Karen Keninger, Director of NLS, will discuss the next steps for NLS in implementing the Marrakesh Treaty as an authorized entity within the United States. She will discuss steps that have already been taken and pending actions which will initiate NLS’s participation in Marrakesh exchange. She will also discuss some of the complexities and requirements of implementing cross-border exchange and methods for addressing them.

Bio :

Karen Keninger has served as the Director of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Library of Congress (NLS) since 2012. Prior to her appointment with the Library of congress, Keninger served as Director of the Iowa Department for the Blind and as Regional Librarian at the Iowa Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Her priorities for NLS focus on leveraging advancing technology and expanding content for all print-disabled persons. Currently NLS is exploring digital delivery to digitally connected devices for both braille and audio content utilizing voice user interface technology to increase accessibility and usability.
