Nauman Ali Khan discussed about discovering our own identity. He used three verses from Surat Israk (17:83-85) as a reference.
The first verse (83) told about how, when human receives lots of gifts and presents until they forgot that everything comes from Allah and assumes that they are supposedly accredited to get those accomplishments due to their capability or their own hard-fought rewards, thinking that they are solely entitled to the rewards until they forgot Allah in the first place.
But when people get harmed or depressed, facing some kind of inner private problems then suddenly they turned to Allah. But not by repenting to Him. Instead they blamed Him for the Aral they have to deal. Ironically, when man does a good job, he is entitled for the credit afterwards. But when bad occasion occurs, everyone seems to defame Allah as a holy scapegoat.
This verse taught us about etiquette, not just in the matter of how we act, but also how we control ourselves in delivering a neutral speech. At the end of the day we all agree that every single thing, no matter it is good or bad comes aligned with His will. Nothing can happen against His wish. Mature believer always relax, they think if anything positive happens there is good in it. If anything negative takes place there's also good in it and basically this is all His testament upon His servants. Or in Malay we often utter it as hikmah. Everyone provided with different sets of challenges and opportunities, which Allah won't be giving more or less than what He has written and decided.
The question erupted in the next verse (84). Why Allah don't make everyone taste the same challenges so that it will attempt to be consistent? Everyone have their own personality, some have a good sense of humor while some can't even crack a joke. Some interested in science while the others are more exposed to literature. There are peoples who are technically talented and there are artistic peoples. So with these numerous different personalities and diversions can they stand the exact same challenges that are meant to fruit to that summoned 'consistency'?
Recognize your skills and work within your accordance. This kind of personality doesn't only work in individual level but also powerfully implicated in the national level. One nation studies the other nations. One nation's strength is a nation's weakness and vice versa so they can keep interacting and relating to each other in order to improve themselves respectively.
With this explanation floated another question mark in the next verse (85). And then where comes all these different personalities from? Nature and nurture? But there are twins that live in the same house yet contrasting different interests. For such, one loves to ride a bike while his twin likes to drive motorcars.
The answer is, the world of command and the world of creation. The world of creation means the world with process and doesn't settle in overnight. For example, a seed if we bury it, it will take some time for the seed to grow up a tree. A baby will have to oversee procedures before he becomes a man. He doesn't turn into man in overnight. He has to go through certain processes. For the world of command, the world happens with His wish, different with human's perception as mankind's mind is limited but His amendments are infinity and therefore, as His will He does what He wants to do, with immediate effect. These two worlds seems partly separated yet they both buried deep in ourselves. Our physical depends on the world of creation while our spiritual copes with the world of command. There is an essence of our personality deep in our heart but we barely know about it.
Until you put yourself on work you won't discover who you are. Stop fearing of jumping to work, for not the essence deep in your heart shall be hidden forever.
Grind!
