Humanitias Code is set in a futuristic world where humans and androids coexist. The story takes place in the main city of Sector-118, one of the most prosperous and advanced settlements to exist. In a world dominated by technology, humans still reign supreme and hold a monopoly over the android race. Strict governing and inequality plague the prosperous city of Sector-118, leaving mass unrest and tension between the poor majority and the rich upper class. Because of this, the Slums of Secotr-118 have split away from the main city and have become a safe haven for lower class citizens and androids alike. 

Sector-118 is the world's most advanced city to date. Known to many as "The Sanctuary", Sector-118 is at the center of the world, housing the most advanced technology with the most vast android network to exist. However, this prosperous city is not without its many issues. The almost tyrannically led government has near complete control over most aspects of daily life within the Sector, especially regarding the production and distribution of androids. 

Because of this, large conflicts and mass protests have arisen between the government and the common people, eventually leading to the outer ring of Sector-118 to split off from the center city. "The Slums," as it is known, have ruled themselves with little government inference since then, and the government has no desire to bring them back. 

The government of Sector-118 is strict and unyielding. Having a long history filled with corruption, manipulation, and unethical scientific development, many people have lost trust in the once glorious government of the Sector. Nowadays, there exists two forms of government in the Sector, the main government of Central-118 and the self ruled government of the Slums. 

The main government is unconcerned with the loss of the Slums and continues operations as normal. 

Androids are an advanced form of Artificial Intelligence that has been developed and integrated into human society. These humanoid robots are controlled and managed by the government and tasked with specific roles in order to aid in humanity's continuous development. Seen as mere machines or tools for human use, androids are often mistreated and seen as lesser in society. 

The androids produced by the government have little to no autonomy, meaning they are completely controlled by their distributor/ employer and have no free will or conscious thought. They are simple machines programmed to carry out specific tasks. These are the most common androids found within Sector-118.

Fully autonomous androids are deemed illegal by the government due to numerous issues in the past such as ethical concerns from public, androids uprisings, android rights protests, massacres, etc. There have been autonomous androids produced in the past by the government, however they have all been destroyed since due to these past events. Currently, some government androids are given limited autonomy in order to better aid humans, but not enough to exist on the same level as humans.

However, a new AI development project has started to produce fully autonomous AI that is completely loyal to the government. A-1 is the first and only android thus far to be produced under this project and is currently being assessed for her viability.
