What Is A Yak Farm
I'm not an expert on yaks. I'm not even an amateur on yaks. But I know more about yaks than the average person, because I've been to a yak farm.
The average person has never been to a yak farm. Most people have never even seen a yak. This is partly because there are not many yaks in the world, and most of them are in the Himalayas or Mongolia, where there aren't that many people either. But it's also because nobody goes around saying "there is a yak farm over there" without explaining what a yak is first. So most people go through their whole lives without ever having any reason to wonder "what is a yak?"
But if you went to a yak farm, you would immediately start wondering all sorts of things about yaks you didn't know you were interested in before. You would learn that they have particularly long outer hairs, and shorter downy inner hairs that keep them warm in winter; that they can live at altitudes up to 18,000 feet; and that they are domesticated both for their meat and for the fiber from their undercoat, which is used to make felt and rope and yarn (they call this "yak hair").
