Welcome to the Raising Yaks Youtube Channel.

We are a family farm in the Catskill Mountains in New York State. We raise yaks and other critters. Our goal is to produce healthy, great tasting food that we can be proud of.

We practice rotational grazing, which means that our livestock are rotated from one pasture to another on a regular basis. This allows us to take advantage of the natural forage on each pasture without causing soil erosion or over-grazing. Rotational grazing also allows us to improve the quality of all of our pastures, giving our animals a better diet, which in turn results in healthier livestock and healthier meat for our customers.

Our yaks are 100% grass fed and grass finished. They are never given hormones, prophylactic antibiotics or grain supplements. The only grain they receive is what they find on the ground after it falls off hay bales or is spilled by wildlife (deer and turkeys). These are not "organic" yaks because we cannot afford to pay the fee required by USDA's National Organic Program (NOP). However, we do use organic practices as defined by the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) and would like to eventually become certified organic if there is

I was looking for a YouTube video on how to raise yaks.

A few weeks before I started writing this essay, my friend Elizabeth spent the weekend with us. She got in late Friday night and left early Sunday morning, and for most of the time she was here I was finishing up a grant proposal I'd been working on for a month. But still we had time to do some talking.
