Yak is a unique animal which is found in the high altitude of Himalayan Mountain Ranges in India, Nepal, Bhutan and China. It is considered as one of the best domestic animals for the areas where normal cattle cannot survive. Yak produces meat, milk, skin, fiber and dung which can be used as a fuel. The yak is a large bovid native to the Himalayan region of China, India, Nepal and Bhutan. It has long shaggy hair, a large head with two large horns, which can grow up to 1m in length and weigh over 30kg. The yak is raised for its dairy products, meat, hides and fur.

Ideal Conditions for Rearing:

Yaks live high on the mountains where there are few trees but plenty of grasses. The ideal temperature for them is -10C to 10C, though they can withstand temperatures as low as -40C and as high as +30C.

Its milk contains about 10% fat content which makes it ideal for the manufacture of butter and cheese. Yak meat is also considered to be highly nutritious and it serves as an important source of protein.
