I suggest exploring some of these videos and considering what 'lenses' they use for their analysis. If you become more familiar with the analysis process, you will become more competent at breaking down texts and finding meanings.

Reading the news is important for becoming better English students. First, being more informed about the political and social forces around us gives us more possibilities for interpretation. For example, the more we know about a global issue, the more we can analyze the ways in which a particular text represents, reinforces or remedies that issue. Additionally, when you read journalism, you engage with authors who are writing for specific purposes. I recommend that you can consider the different stylistic choices these writer's make in order to convey their messages.

Crash Course
Crash course does an incredible job at giving you a broad overview of relevant events, concepts and theories in a particular field. There are many fields pertaining to our subject, such as literature, linguistics and mythology, that are available on Crash Course. This does not require rigorous, extensive studying, but watching a few videos will better inform your English studies this year.
