Bourgeoisie

The Bourgeoisie

The bourgeoisie is the upper class of society. They differ from the proletariat in that they control the means of production, such as factories, which means that they are relied upon by the proletariat.

Engles, 1847

"The class of big capitalists, who, in all civilized countries, are already in almost exclusive possession of all the means of subsistence and of the instruments (machines, factories) and materials necessary for the production of the means of subsistence. This is the bourgeois class, or the bourgeoisie."
