Nafiz and Tanjilur Embark on New Paths
Tanjilur Rahman and Iqbal Hossain Nafiz, two of our former research students, are moving forward in their academic and research journeys. Tanjilur is preparing to begin his PhD at the University of Queensland, Australia, while Nafiz is continuing his research journey at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology.
During their time at HOPE Lab, both Tanjilur and Nafiz were actively involved in research and contributed to several research projects and publications. Nafiz contributed to studies on lactic acid bacteria, their antimicrobial and functional properties, and plant beneficial rhizobacteria, while Tanjilur contributed to research involving microbial biotechnology and computational approaches, including an in-silico study on the antiviral potential of prodigiosin. Their work reflects the breadth of research interests they developed during their time in the lab.
Two of their classmates from the same batch, Sajjad Hossain from HOPE Lab and Ayan, both from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, are already pursuing their PhDs in the USA. Interestingly, despite having excellent academic records and securing merit positions in their BSc (Honours) results, they chose the non-thesis route during their MS. Their journeys remind us that paths may be different, but commitment, curiosity, and determination to keep learning can take us far. We are happy to see these young researchers from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Chittagong, pursuing their aspirations in different parts of the world.
We sincerely thank Tanjilur and Iqbal for their contributions to the HOPE Lab, and for the time, effort, and enthusiasm they devoted to research with us. We hope their journeys will inspire our juniors to pursue research with the same dedication and remain committed to learning. We also extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all graduates of BMB-CU who are embarking on higher studies, research, or other new academic journeys. Wherever life takes them, we hope they will always find ways to give back to their juniors, alma mater, society, and country.
May Allah guide them, keep them on the right path, and grant them wisdom, integrity, and success in all their future endeavours.

Sajjad Hossain Begins His PhD Journey in the USA
Mohammed Sajjad Hossain Bappi, a former research member of HOPE Lab and alumnus of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Chittagong, has begun his PhD journey in the United States.
Sajjad was involved in research at the lab for nearly three years and contributed to several projects and peer-reviewed publications. Despite having an excellent academic record and a merit position in his BSc (Honours), he pursued the non-thesis route during his MS while continuing to engage in research through project-based work. His experience reflects how sustained curiosity, dedication, and persistence can shape an individual's research journey through different academic pathways.
We sincerely appreciate Sajjad's time, effort, and contributions to HOPE Lab and hope that his continued research journey will inspire our younger members to remain curious, patient, and committed to learning. We wish him all the best for the years of research ahead. May Allah guide him, keep him steadfast, and make his knowledge and work beneficial to others.

A New Academic Journey Begins for Subrina Akter Zedny
Subrina Akter Zedny, a former member of HOPE Lab, has begun her MS journey at the University of Adelaide, Australia. Zedny joined our lab in February 2020 while studying in the Department of Microbiology and remained actively involved in research for approximately three years. During this period, she contributed to research on plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria, biosurfactants, and microbial ecology and became a co-author of three published research papers.
Her time at the lab was marked by consistent involvement, teamwork, and an interest in research. We appreciate her contributions to our research activities and wish her continued growth and success as she begins this new stage of her academic journey.
We hope she will continue to contribute to science and society wherever her academic and professional path takes her.
