HMPS IKS - Serving as a conduit for student aspirations and expectations for better program development
The Student Association of the Social Welfare Studies Program (HMPS IKS) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, through its Public Relations and Advocacy Network Division, held a handover ceremony for student aspirations to the Social Welfare Studies Program on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM. This event was attended by Mr. Muhammad Izzul Haq, S.Sos., M.Sc., Ph.D, as the Head of the IKS Study Program and Mr. Khotibul Umam, M.Si., as the Secretary of the IKS Study Program, HMPS IKS administrators, and the Public Relations and Advocacy Network Division.
This meeting is part of an effort to voice the opinions of IKS program students, aiming to collect and convey various aspirations and issues experienced by IKS students, particularly related to the academic process. Through this work program, HMPS IKS collects student aspirations via a Google Form distributed every two weeks to all cohorts. The collected aspirations are then processed and compiled to be presented to the program study.
In this activity, HMPS IKS presented the results of the aspiration form in the form of a PowerPoint presentation containing various issues experienced by students, such as facilities and infrastructure, academic activities, and lecture activities between lecturers and students. After the presentation was completed, the study program provided several constructive responses and inputs to the students' aspirations.
Mr. Umam said that every decision made by the study program cannot be made directly, but must go through a deliberation process with other lecturers. In addition, he also highlighted the importance of the role of laboratories as a forum for student expression, but still respecting existing cultural values. Mr. Umam also encouraged HMPS IKS to collaborate more often with LP3S to create an inclusive atmosphere, while strengthening the existence of HMPS and LP3S among students.
Meanwhile, Mr. Izul suggested that the aspiration report be compiled in a more systematic manner. Responding to the issue of the planned transfer of the IKS study program to the Faculty of Social and Humanities (FISHUM), he explained that this had been discussed but was put on hold due to historical considerations and several other factors. Additionally, Mr. Izul also said that comparative studies could be considered if there was cooperation between the study program and HMPS. Regarding the issue of course practice, he suggested that if students had complaints about lecturers, they should be conveyed directly to the study program so that they could be followed up properly.
The event then concluded with a symbolic handover of student aspirations from HMPS IKS to the IKS study program as a form of open communication between students and the study program, followed by a group photo session. HMPS IKS hopes that the student aspiration room program can become a sustainable platform for strengthening the relationship between students and the program, as well as a means of creating a more responsive academic environment for the needs of Social Welfare Science students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
