I'm Nalani! I'm currently a senior at Grand Valley State University, pursuing a B.A. degree in Studio Art with an Illustration emphasis. I've become fascinated with creating art keenly focused on environmental, nature-based subjects, often using realistic styles. My favorite medium to work with is graphite, colored pencils, pen, and watercolor. I would like to refine my skills that are inspired and influenced by the natural world while focusing on the texture, shape, and contrast of shadow and light of organisms in nature; to explore both inner and exterior perspectives of these organisms, the bones, and internal structures as well as the form and movement they produce.
Outside of art, I love to travel to indoor and outdoor rock climbing facilities or geological areas with my friends. From spending many hours physically interacting with nature, I gradually developed a keen eye for the land and surrounding area. There were even times when I unexpectedly found corpses of mammals and reptiles that were each in their different stages of decomposition. I've also seen snake cannibalism as it took nearly 1 1/2 to 2 hours to consume. Nature has always made me increasingly curious to explore wildlife and species diversity through art.
